Evaluation

Overall I am pleased with my work I have done in year 12. I believe I have learnt lots of important information on the way. In particular when we had a professional media expert come in and speak to us about our work. In this interview I was able to pick his brain on what he thought my piece lacked in order to reach my highest potential. In particular he told me to make my work more music related, therefore I added storylines that clearly related to music. I think that this improved my work considerably in terms of final tweaks. His expertise helped me mainly to brush up any loose ends.

Additionally I found the use of looking at previous A level media work very helpful, as it gave me an image of the sort of quality I wanted to achieve in order to do well. I took several notes from previous work such as the positioning, colour schemes and the maturity of good standard work. I believe this enabled be to create a much more professional look in order to reach the standard of work that institutions would be happy to publish.

Finally things I would change if I was to do the work again would be variety of ways I uploaded my work to my blog. For example the use of prezi, videos or vlogs would have been an excellent way to express ideas. I did attempt a YouTube focus group however due to in experience with the software I was unable to upload the work. I think this would have gave me much more in terms of depth in order to meet the exam specification.
Peer assessment –

What attracts you to each piece?

Archie –

On the front cover the text size and colour worked well as it gave a powerful look rather than shadowing the image. On the contents the image is very large and clear. It’s easy to see what is the main purpose of the contents however I think there should be some more stories. The double page spread has good context that is very intriguing. The structure is also very sharp and really relates to the hip hop ideology.

Charlie-Mae-

The use of direct address works well on the front cover. On the contents page, the red font and the red outline stands out a lot which draws you to the main image more. I really like the picture on the double page spread. The use of lines that lead work really well and is all together quite an intriguing photo.

Naveed –

I like the fonts used on the front cover and the use of direct address. I really like the picture and the album cover used on the contents page and the synergy with the front cover. The double page spread looks professional and the images used look like the character is a rapper.

Niall-

I really think the colours work well together, it helps the copy stand out and also any important information. The direct address also attracts my attention and helps the elite people stand out. The mise-en-scene also works very well with the genre of the magazine (hip hop) due to the locations being very urban and helping the elite people create an sense of attitude around them.
After my target audience evaluated my contents I have a variety of bullet point that I need to improve the page.
-the page number need to be located before the story
-excessive gaps in between story's create wasteful space.
-I need to add around roughly 10 more stories
- could highlight certain parts of stories
